Judges’ Viewing Decks & Nutcracker on Ice Throne: Robert Crown Community Center
I was contracted to build temporary decks to fit within the hockey bench areas of the Robert Crown Community Center main ice rink, for two panels of figure skating judges to be seated on to view and score competitions.
In order for them to be sturdy, but also easy to install/remove and store, I devised a structure of supports that fit over the hockey bench areas to support a plywood platform, then built a small set of steps to make access easy and safe.
When the event was over, each deck broke down and was easily stacked away for storage.
I also built the prop throne for that year’s performance of The Nutcracker on Ice–made to be strong but light weight for easy storage and future use–which I tested out one evening when I was at Robert Crown playing hockey.
