Multi-Level Back Deck: Evanston
This project built an entirely new rear deck structure: deck, railings and stairs.
This gave the homeowners better access out of their sliding door, and from the deck into the yard, as well as a practical and safe new set of stairs out of their primary back door.
The old deck, right before I got started.
Demolition underway.
Demolition complete, work site clean, ready for new build.
After setting new concrete piers for the posts, I started on the framing for the new deck.
New deck framing.
My dog Murphy joined our family during this project, and the homeowners loved having him on site as much as I did. He quickly got used to the noise of tools and is a great team mate.
Murphy is an essential item in the Ahern Fine Carpentry tool kit.
Laying down the decking and building stairs.
Nearly finished.
This new deck structure gives much easier access to the deck out of the single dining room door.
Plenty of space for deck furniture.
New stairs down from the main back entrance/exit sliding door that also give easy access onto the deck.
Two steps down to the yard across the full width of the deck makes it great for everyone.
